PC
systems consume ever more +12V power, and some power
supplies provide multiple +12V outputs. Does that
mean a larger number of +12V output rails is better? |
A larger number of +12V output rails is not always better.
The max power limit of the combined outputs must be considered.
Most PSUs with multiple +12V line have a max combined
output limit which is smaller than the sum of the individual
12V lines. It is the sum of the +12V lines that is the
most important. Furthermore, Intel drafted the ATX12V
v2.0 design guide to keep each +12V line to be lower than
20A in order to comply with UL & EN-60950 safety specification.
Any PSU that allows a +12V line to exceed 20A does not
comply with the ATX12V v2.x spec.

Why
does the 3-pin fan connector on my Seasonic power supply
have only two wires? |
The purpose of the 3-pin fan connector is to monitor the RPM
of the PSU fan through the motherboard. One wire provides the
RPM signal, the other is ground. Seasonic power supplies offer
the function of fan speed monitoring through the MB, not fan
speed control.

How
to use the ¡§External Fan Control Output¡¨? |
The External Fan Control function provides lower voltage outputs
to reduce the speed of case fans and make the whole system even
quieter. For Installation, use the case fan adapter to connect
between the 4pin HDD connector and up to 3 case fans to reduce
noise from your case fans. (The connector marked ¡§H¡¨ is for
¡§Full¡¨ speed run, the other marked ¡§L¡¨ is for ¡§Low¡¨ speed run).
Please be informed this one does not provide thermally controlled
function. And this feature may not be applied to some case fans
those can¡¦t be operated by lowering voltage.

What is DC to DC converter design for 3.3V and 5V lines? |
Some may refer it as ¡§Voltage Regulator Modules for 3.3V and 5V lines¡¨:
DC to DC conversion directly from the main 12V DC line eliminates the need for additional transformer and as well, brings higher efficiency and immediate response for the computer system. Instead of using two or more AC to DC transformers, a single high quality and capacity AC to 12V DC transformer is applied to drop the AC voltages to low DC voltages suitable for computers. All the other DC voltages rails are derived from the 12V DC line using DC to DC conversion.
What are the benefits of DC to DC converter design?
1.High compatibility with zero minimum loads on each line.
2.Better cross regulation.
3.Maximum capacity of 12v current for extreme utilization
4.Higher efficiency and better dynamic response.
