When 80PLUS just isn't enough!

Sea Sonic provides for you Energy Star 4.0 ready solutions

When people are more and more sensitive about energy saving, 80PLUS becomes a must for general systems.  According to Ecos Consulting, the firm that administers the 80PLUS program, approximately 400,000 desktop systems incorporated with 80PLUS-certified power supplies have already been shipped.

However, as the prices for electricity are ever increasing, users expect more from for energy-efficient PCs.  The U.S. Department of Energy predicts that residential prices for electricity are expected to increase 2.7% in 2008 and 3.1% in 2009.  What is the next big topic that PC & IPC industries should and will focus on?  Energy Star 4.0 will likely be the answer.

July 2007, the Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star 4.0 Guidelines incorporated the 80Plus specification as part of its own requirement.  An Energy Star 4.0 system requires not only 80Plus efficiency on 20%, 50% and 100% loads and a true power factor >0.9, but as well, energy consumption reductions for standby, sleep and idle modes.  (Please refer to table below)  In other words, Energy Star 4.0 is a total 'Green PC technology' that helps the user save electricity at all time.

Product Type
Tier 1. Requirements
Desktop/ Multimedia Computers

Idle State – High Performance: < 74 W
Standby (Off Mode): < 2 W
Sleep Mode: < 5W
Idle State – Basic Performance: < 49 W

In addition, higher efficiency in full operations and non-operational modes means lower heat accumulation and dissipation into the surrounding environment that means less energy is needed to cool the environment.  As well, lower heat translates into longer product lifetime and thereby increases savings and reduces waste both material and financial.  This shows another environment-friendly advantage of an Energy Star 4.0 ready system.

We strongly believe Energy Star 4.0 will play a more and more important role in a user's daily life.
